Thousands of you joined us in urging the U.S. Forest Service to strengthen protections for the 219-mile Flathead Wild and Scenic River in Montana, portions of which flow through the gorges and valleys of the 1.5-million-acre Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex, and are home to grizzly bears, Canada lynx, wolves, mountain goats, and bull trout.
Our recent landmark legal victory for wilderness protection, which struck down the Forest Service’s approval of a plan by Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks to poison more than 45 miles of Buffalo Creek in the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness north of Yellowstone National Park, would not have been possible without over 10,000 of you opposing this plan. Your actions and support laid the groundwork to stop an invasion of the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness with poisons, helicopters, and other motorized equipment!
And on Earth Day, we celebrated a win for imperiled wildlife when a vote on the so-called "ESA Amendments Act" (H.R. 1897) was pulled from the U.S. House floor at the last minute! This bill would have weakened the Endangered Species Act and protections for threatened and endangered species—including wildlife that call Wilderness home—but over 8,000 of you rose up and called or emailed your U.S. House Rep. Thank you!
