Take action to protect critical grizzly bear habitat and Wilderness in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem!
Heads up, Wilderness Watchers! The future of hundreds of thousands of acres of federal public lands in Wyoming is being decided right now, and we need you to raise your voice by September 4!
In November 2015, the Wyoming County Commissioner’s Association launched the so-called Wyoming Public Lands Initiative (PLI). The stated goal of the PLI is to forward a major public lands package to the U.S. Congress to decide the fate of 45 of America’s Wilderness Study Areas – totaling 700,000 acres – in Wyoming.
These wild, federal public lands – some within the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem – are essential habitat for grizzly bears, wolves, native trout, and countless other species. At its worst, the PLI could result in the loss of these cherished national public wildlands at the hands of extractive industries and motorized recreation.
On September 4, the Teton County Commissioners will decide whether to recommend that Congress permanently protect the federal Wilderness Study Areas found in Teton County, Wyoming, or open them up to inappropriate recreation and extractive industries at the expense of important wildlife habitat and wilderness.
Urge the Teton County Commissioners to support the most protective proposal – the Teton Wildlands Conservation Plan, with some strengthening improvements!
Please speak up for wildlife and wilderness before it's too late!
