Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, Alaska

As you may recall, in December 2017, Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and the Trump administration deviously circumvented normal law-making procedures to attach an amendment to the GOP's Tax Cut bill that opened the coastal plain of America's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil and gas drilling. Please take action today to stop drilling in the Arctic Refuge!

The GOP Tax Cut bill mandated at least two oil lease sales on the Arctic Refuge's coastal plain before 2027. The Bureau of Land Management has issued a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) to open the Refuge's 1.5 million-acre Coastal Plain to oil leasing and development.

Fortunately, in February, Representative Jared Huffman (D-CA) introduced the "Arctic Cultural and Coastal Plain Protection Act" (HR 1146), which would amend the GOP's "Tax Cuts and Jobs Act" to repeal the entire Arctic National Wildlife Refuge oil and gas program. The bipartisan bill currently has over 110 co-sponsors in the U.S. House.

Please take action and ask your representative to co-sponsor HR 1146 in the U.S. House, and urge your senators to introduce and co-sponsor the "Arctic Cultural and Coastal Plain Protection Act" in the U.S. Senate.

The 20 million-acre Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is unparalleled in its wild grandeur, ecological wholeness, and vast scale. Polar bears, caribou, muskoxen, wolves, Dall sheep, brown bears, wolverines, arctic foxes, and more than 200 bird species depend on the refuge for survival. In fact, nearly all of the refuge is designated Wilderness or recommended for wilderness designation by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.

The Arctic Cultural and Coastal Plain Protection Act speaks for the majority of Americans who oppose oil and gas drilling in the Arctic Refuge, and it would prevent the Trump administration from giving away one of our most treasured public lands to benefit their industry friends and donors.

America's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge needs your help now more than ever, so please take action to keep the Arctic Refuge wild and free from drilling and development!
