Border Bills Threaten All Wilderness Areas Within 100 Miles of U.S. Border with Canada and Mexico!

Two bills in the U.S. Congress – purportedly dealing with border security – threaten all Wilderness areas within 100 miles of the southern border with Mexico and within 100 miles of the northern border with Canada, including the border between Alaska and Canada.
Your help is needed to block these anti-Wilderness bills from becoming law!
The so-called "Border Security for America Act" (H.R. 3548) introduced by Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX), would waive 36 federal laws – including the 1964 Wilderness Act – within 100 miles of the northern and southern borders for U.S. Customs and Border Protection, which is part of the Department of Homeland Security.
This bill would open these Wildernesses to truck and vehicle traffic, and the construction of roads, border walls and forward operating bases, plus much more. An earlier analysis we conducted showed that this waiver of the Wilderness Act along just the northern border with Canada could damage 73 Wildernesses across 12 states affecting more than 32 million acres of the National Wilderness Preservation System!
Meanwhile, the "Secure Our Borders and Wilderness Act" (H.R. 3593), from Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA), would directly amend and weaken the 1964 Wilderness Act. This bill would allow U.S. Customs and Border Protection to access structures, installations and roads; use motor vehicles; use and land aircraft; deploy "temporary" infrastructure, including forward operating bases; and construct and maintain roads, all in designated Wildernesses!
It is simply not necessary to destroy America's Wilderness legacy to keep our country safe. U.S. Customs and Border Protection has worked with the federal land management agencies that administer Wilderness for more than a decade already without waiving or gutting our federal laws. Though that work hasn’t always worked perfectly for Wilderness, that work is far better than waiving the Wilderness Act entirely. We can keep both our nation and our Wildernesses safe without these new damaging bills.
Please TAKE ACTION and tell Congress to oppose both H.R. 3548 and H.R. 3593!
